We generate training opportunities and jobs for unemployed young people aged 16-24 in practical horticulture. We offer Volunteer Traineeships, Apprenticeships as well as a Adult and Corporate Volunteer scheme.
Apprentice Grower – FIND OUT MORE
Cultivate London exists to support young people gain skills, work experience and access into ongoing employment. Traineeships start in March, June and September, and we offer up to 30 trainee positions per year to:
- Young people currently unemployed and no longer engaged in education
- Aged between 16-24 years old
- Keen to work and learn outdoors on urban farms
We provide practical, hands on work experience and training in:
- Sowing, planting, watering and harvesting herbs, salad leaves and vegetables
- Constructing growing sites
- Health and safety
- Manual handling
- Sales and customer service
A Volunteer Trainee completes between 15 hours per week for three months on our growing sites. The fourth month is completed with another company (e.g. English Heritage, Royal Parks, landscaping companies) so that Trainees continue to build on their horticulture knowledge, skills and experience.
More detail on the traineeship structure can be found by clicking 2013 Training Structure.
Each year, Cultivate London Ltd is able to offer a small number of paid apprenticeships to graduates of our trainee programme. We currently have three apprentices, and hope to be able to hire more in the near future.
Cultivate London apprentices will achieve a Diploma in Amenity Horticulture, delivered by Caple Manor College, whilst working 28 hours each week. An apprenticeship lasts two years.
Adult and Corporate Volunteers
A wee bit too old to take part in our Volunteer Traineeship (we won’t tell – you don’t look a day over 21!), or simply not interested in committing to the full program? We currently welcome volunteers on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, and now and again need a bit of extra help with one-off projects that require many hands.
We also regularly run “team days” for various businesses in the community. We welcome teams from companies across London.
