First Grafting workshop at Cultivate London Salopian Kitchen Garden
Our first workshop at the Salopian Kitchen Garden in Isleworth took place this month to great success. 15 participants eagerly turned up to learn the craft of Grafting. This hands on workshop was led by Lewis from Urban Orchard, who took us through some of the history and the theory of grafting, followed by a detailed demonstration of how to graft an apple tree.
All participants worked on their own tree grafts choosing from a variety of apple trees and took their handiwork home to nurture and plant out in the coming warmer months.
What looks like a mere stick in the picture above will thrive and eventually blossom… it may take a few years.
We will be running more workshops at this wonderful and developing location in Isleworth throughout the year (details to follow). Do please consider joining us on one or all of these and spread the word.
Participant feedback
Thanks so much for yesterday – I really enjoyed it (despite making a fairly botched job of my tree!). I thought Lewis was a really excellent teacher, and explained everything very thoroughly, and to be honest, I can’t think of anything I’d suggest in terms of improvements – there seemed to be about the right number of people in the workshop, we had everything we needed in terms of equipment, and it was great to have a bag and compost to take our trees home. Also, thanks so much for the tea and biscuits – would have been happy to pay an extra charge just for those (and for Brenda’s buns!).
I just want to tell you that it was a brilliant session. Thank you all
